Picture me making a bucktoothed rodent face. Awww.

It turns out that there are people who breed guinea pigs for show.

Like "Best in Show"? Everybody's favorite mockumentary involving dogs? Except with guinea pigs.

Now, I like the little rodents as well as anyone. And when I get my two (who will be male and female and named, respectively, Jupiter and Waffle), I will show them to anyone who cares to look. But I wouldn't put them IN a show.

Because I believe a guinea pig's life should be about much, much more than a shallow modelling career.

Cue Ben Stiller. As a guinea pig.

Yeeeaugh!

You *really* don't want to get a male and a female. I had a male and female gerbil for a while. Then I had 10 gerbils. Then I had 30 gerbils. Then they started killing each other. Then they started eating each other after killing each other (even though they had plenty of food). Then the super-deformed incestuous baby gerbils started appearing.

That's when my parents ended the gerbils-as-pets experiment.

My advice is to just stick with two females. Anything else is just asking for trouble.

don't worry, they would be neutered little piggies.

michele - i dunno. i am really thinking about it but i will certainly give it a few weeks to see if it sticks. they are awfully cute and i like their little sounds.

You can neuter guinea pigs? It seems like it would be an awfully delicate little operation.....

just as a heads up, kris my dear, in a studio apartment, guinea pigs would add their fair share not only of cuteness, but of STINK. stinky little balls of cuteness is what they are. just a thought. a smelly thought.

our museum has lesbian guinea pigs. well, one heterosexual male one, but the girl guinea pigs only like girl guinea pigs. i think the finches are also gay.

I went to feed my gerbils this morning and found that one had killed the other one, They are 2 females and have been with each other for a year. Why did this happen?
