What if they gave a war and no one came?
But then imagine that instead of a war, it was my birthday party, and instead of no one coming it was actually attended by all of you.
So what if THAT? Huh?
Um...let's do journalism style:
Who: Me
What: Birthday
When: Saturday 10/19 comma evening of
Where: Not sure yet. Out to dinner and then to 26 mix for some 80s music is what I am thinking.
Why: Because it's the surest way I have to guarantee presents from you slackers. See this way you can just buy me dinnner and a few drinks. And not even a whole dinner! Because maybe there will be lots of you!
So...that's it I guess. If you have good ideas for where a lot of people can comfortably eat dinner in SF then by all means talk amongst yourselves; my only stipulation is, not sushi. Unless we make it at someone's house, which I am also down with.
Erica and Jacob also both have birthdays right around then, so if you two were wanting the Saturday night for something else involving everyone, hey, I am flexible. (It's the yoga.)

I feel that no talking amongst ourselves need be done.
We're going to Buca di Beppo in the city. If you've never been, you're in for a treat. If you have, then I know you're already salivating as you read this.
Curious? Buca di Beppo
Location? 855 Howard St. SF
A picture? Here ya go
What do they Serve? Check the menu

Eh. The food is okay. It's definitely fun though.
Yoga has made you serene, oh grasshopper.
Posted by: tracy at October 1, 2002 09:29 AM
tracy, i'm with you.
if you're still open to other suggestions, look into timo's on mission - spanish tapas. they can accomodate big groups with a reservation. good food, good times.
Posted by: salvador marki at October 1, 2002 09:52 AM
I hear beppo feeds an american hunger for community.
I have a longstanding curiosity about tapas. but my passionate love affair with italian food should not be discounted.
anything else on offer out there?
Posted by: judiciousfoot at October 1, 2002 10:48 AM
I am for anything, really as long as there are vegan foods for my man and some other veggie dishes for me. I know, pain in the ass. Sorry! I will bring a nice gift for you though.
Posted by: tracy at October 1, 2002 10:54 AM
tapas! tapas! tapas! garlicky oily potatos (vegan), squid and stewed rabbit and serrano ham (not vegan), homemade sausage and mediterranean sardines and spanish tortilla(not vegan), and sangria (vegan!), a river of sangria (vegan!), sangria seeping in over our arms & our shoulders and up to our ears as we sputter out Mas Tapas! Bring us more plates!
---
maybe the menu should be consulted by Tracy who probably has a much nicer internet connection that i do. they may well have vegan food--certainly olives and mushrooms, but maybe actual food.
---
i would prefer bowling to new wave, but i am just one girl.
Posted by: la vigilante -eh! at October 1, 2002 11:12 AM
hm. i think even oily potatoes have butter...too bad ian's not a NEW vegan, then we could just lie to him. or make him eat cereal. them new vegan/vegetarians do love cereal.
i'm going to vote on whichever one has the most vegetarian options, myself.

testify!
all grease in tapas is olive oil.
preach on, sista zabie!

happy birthday (first line by frosty the snowman). i've never met ya, but i'll give you a few locks of michele's hair from my attic closet. distance prevents me from revealing my true identity and pants is the only connection i have with this otherworld.

I would enjoy anywhere other than bucca di beppo. How can that place be considered true Italian when Italy is so Catholic and bucca di beppo proves that there is no God?
Posted by: jason at October 1, 2002 08:39 PM
i have a do not care vote. but due to the fact that i'm throwing a sushi making party for ellie on oct 7 i would vote against that. (pssssss to which you are all invited. see SUSHI....uuh maybe by 9am tomorrow.)

Several topics to discuss:
1. None of us will ever understand the completely fucked-up relationship you have with Gene. I can't say that I like it, for many reasons. He's rebounding, first. Next, last time you guys tried this, it ended badly and he couldn't even hear your name for months. What will happen this time? He might leave the country and never come back. Or worse, become Mormon.
2. Buca di beppo is the scariest place ever invented. You should not eat there if you actually enjoy Italian food. Really.
3. I think sometimes it's better to actually say things to people when you see them, instead of blogging away. People are able to make faces and gagging noises at you that way, when you for instance drop bombshells such as "Gene and I went on a date."
4. My illness is only partially to blame for the nastiness of these comments.

Well, sounds like I was totally off on Buca di Beppos. I've had a riot of a time every time I've been, but that was conditional on the fact that myself and the other members wanted to be there. In that there is a significant intifada, I hereby formally rescind my Buca di Beppo offer. It was based on Kris' predilection to italian food (umm... make that Italian anything). I'll just go with the flow, whatever you all want.
I will neglect to address any of Kim's non birthday related points since they belong in another thread and don't want to incite riot.

i think i'm against puko di mucho now.
Posted by: michele at October 3, 2002 11:58 AM
hmm though this pizza does sound awfully tasty:
PROSCIUTTO ROLLATO prosciutto, goat cheese, mushrooms, mozzarella, caramelized onions and provolone cheese
but there is a dish with "pomodoro" in the name and we all know how jason doesn't like them.
Posted by: michele at October 3, 2002 12:02 PM
was that goat cheese, mozzarella, and provolone rolled up in pig fat with sugary onions on top? the chef is obviously a tongueless sadist.
Posted by: sistah zabie at October 3, 2002 12:37 PM
a tongueless sadist full of tasty tastebuds.
and don't forget the prosciutto.
Posted by: michele at October 3, 2002 12:41 PM
we should get some more suggestions rolling---
1. the stinking rose is well-loved among the suburban set, and i think near bowling, jazz, and a leetle park.
2. Papa Portrero's ;)
3. dim sum is festive and welcomes big groups...vegan options vary from place to place.
4. (i'm not really hip to this livejournal thing, but) they appear to have a message board on Where To Indulge:
www.livejournal.com/users/sf_eats
if anyone wants to register.

prosciutto=pigfat. where's he keep the tastebuds, in his tastebudvase on the dash of his Destroy Your Arteries And Rape Your Senses truck?
Posted by: nickels and sour millk at October 3, 2002 12:55 PM
1. i don't like the stinking rose much
2.papa potrero's is really not good pizza.
3. dim sum is tasty.
4. ah pig fat = prosciutto. my bad. my tasty bad.
i'm kind of going back over to munch di toes just so i can EAT THE PIZZA.
