Help!
Now that I'm trying to write short stories, I think I need to read more of them as well. I've read Nabokov, Wodehouse, McKillip, Thurber, Gaiman, Saki and Salinger: who else should I read? Your help will be highly prized.

i think i have some gogol short stories if you are into that. i also have some YA compilation short stories i think... one of which i may have loaned you already--'proms from hell'? maybe i have some short stories by banana yoshimoto too. i'd have to check to see what else i may have.
mostly i don't read short stories though since i can't stand them (i enjoyed yours, don't get me wrong!) but i can't read a whole book of them. i get distracted too easily by the shortness of the plot.
others suggestions: vonnegut, twain, poe, lovecraft (gene loves it!), brautigan (more like novellas), balzac, kipling, jack london, and h.g. wells.
i think i have books by half those people.
