Sara plain and banal

"Do you know what I'm thinking right now?" I say.

"Nope," says the Lad.

"I'm thinking, 'This is our first Christmas tree together,'" I say.

"Oh," he says, "yeah. I did know that. I can feel it seeping from your every pore."

Moment of silence while we hang paper stars.

"I took the bus to Kaiser today," I offer.

"Good for you," he says.

"Know what I think while I'm on the bus?" I ask.

"No."

"I'm on the bus! I'm on the bus! I'm on the bus!"

okay ... settle an argument for me:
How do you pronounce that word,
the last word in your title.

Does it rhyme with anal, or canal?

I think either pronunciation is OK. In the UK, you would rhyme the second syllable with "Paul".

In my book it rhymes more with RuPaul than canal.
