The Lad and Dan met a woman in Athens who knew Henry Miller. Did she know my best friend (and also Robyn's best friend) Anais Nin?
When he comes home, I will kiss the hand of the Lad who shook the hand of the woman who shook the hand of the man who touched the mouth of Anais fucking Nin. In this way, decades late, I will kiss Anais Nin myself, like delayed starlight moving from my living mouth to her dead and darkened planet.

This same woman also had the Dalai Lama stay at her house in the 70's. And it is no palace, either. It reminded Gene and me of a cross between the Fulk residence and my old house on Rainbow Court. Imagine the reincarnated Buddha hanging out at either of those digs.

the dalai lama is the reincarnation of the god(dess)/boddhisattva of compassion, not the Buddha. in tibetan the name is av-omsgkshdagjkalg something, where s/he is androgynous. in japan it's kannon (canon electronics is named after her) where she's female. in china it's guanyin (also female).
