You didn't like that last one, huh?
It's interesting how some of these garner 50 comments and some none.
Have y'all seen Kissing Jessica Stein? Yeah? Did anyone notice how much egg it sucked? Millers and Lad and I watched it last night, and I couldn't help but notice not only the lack of steamy lesbian sex but also the lack of so much as a passionate kiss.
It's a billed as a groundbreaking lesbian movie, but all it shows is a neurotic straight girl and her doormat girlfriend not having sex. And p.s., Actress Who Plays Jessica, waving your hands in the air and talking with a baby girl voice will not distract us from the fact that you aren't acting. You know what would have distracted us? Showing us your breasts.
If Hollywood made movies about real people who happened to be gay, I would watch them without an expectation of breasting. But when I'm watching straight actresses taking on gay roles because of the "challenge" of it, I expect the movie to be entirely sex-based (as this was) and I expect nipple action. Why else would I watch it?
P.S. I'm not trying to be a tiresome dormroom lesbian. I just think girls are pretty.

I think michele's busy being the center of attention over there. Don't worry, they'll come back.
Nice diversion tactics, though: snatching our attention away with hot lesbian teaser action.

well and who can blame me, kristen's had all the attention all week.
i really liked kissing jessica stein. the two main actresses wrote it as a play and performed it off broadway for a long time you know and then made it into a movie themselves. and although, sure their acting abilities are not quite up to snuff, and some of the lines are terrible, on the whole it's a good movie showing the CHOICES people make and what it MEANS to be gay. it wasn't supposed to be a lesbian porno. it was supposed to be a lesbian comedy.

i have no comment.
mr. miller already gave me the lowdown, earlier today, about not kissing jessica stein's nipples. but he doesn't have a comment feature, nor a story about lesbians who aren't. so...i guess, afterall, i did have a comment. but not really a relevant one.
48 more to go. you're on your way.

46 more to go now that michele beat me to comment no. 2.

i LIVE for beating you.
hmmm...never mind.

hm. I thought it was pretty predictable all through. I didn't see them making choices that were outside the standard hollywood romantic comedy plot and apart from the one v. brief scene with the gay man friends I didn't think they addressed what it means to be gay either - but on the other hand, I don't think there's a universal meaning to Gayness.
but blogaggeration aside, I laughed a lot so it didn't suck that many eggs.

I am with Kris. Except I don't care about not seeing the sex. Just care about the really poor acting and the fake les thing.

not fake. that sounded bad. choices are good, i was just so irritated with jessica and her sing songy frantic voice. but i also laughed a bunch. And I really hated the "who's gonna be the guy in this situation montage."
Posted by: tracy at November 8, 2002 03:09 PM
you know what that movie needed? A montage montage.
Like a montage of all the montages: the "getting to know you montage," the "we're not ready to have sex yet" montage, the "moving in" montage, and the "sports training" montage. And the montage song from South Park.
Oh, and girls ARE pretty.
Just sayin'.
